Almenni Lífsverk Pension Fund is open to individuals who are free to choose their pension fund and also serves as an occupational pension fund for five professional groups: architects, tour guides, physicians, technologists, and musicians. Nearly half of the mandatory pension contribution, or 7 out of 15.5%, is paid into inheritable individual pension savings within the Almenni Lífsverk Pension Fund.

Birta Pension Fund (Birta lífeyrissjóður) is open to all not having compulsory membership in another pension fund.
The fund is a traditional occupational fund, where members of specified occupations have compulsory membership.
Brú Pension Fund (Brú lífeyrissjóður) of municipal employees is for people working for municipalities and are members of the Association of Academics (BHM), the Federation of State and Municipal Employees (BSRB), and the Icelandic Teachers' Union (KÍ). The fund has three mutual insurance divisions, Division A, Division B and Division V (open to all). The Reykjavik Employees’ Pension Fund (Lífeyrissjóður starfsmanna Reykjavíkurborgar) merged over to Brú Pension Fund in the year 2024.

The Farmers' Pension Fund began operations on 1 January 1971. The fund is open to all members and is also the occupational fund for all farmers and their spouses running farms.

The members of the Agricultural Bank of Iceland’s Employees’ Pension Fund are the employees of the Agricultural Bank of Iceland. The fund is a proportional fund and stopped accepting new members in 1998.
LSR is a labour union pension fund for public employees that ensures its members their extensive rights upon resignation or retirement from work, disability and death. LSR also sees to the administration of Pension Fund for Employees of the Fisheries Bank of Iceland.
